Overview
Major Maps are experience maps that help undergraduate students navigate their time at UC Berkeley. Each map highlights student opportunities and resources for the individual major. Major maps are available as web pages and printable PDF files.
Major maps live on the Berkeley Discovery website, and are also accessible via the Undergraduate Catalog and from college and department websites. A limited number of colleges and departments have hard copy versions available.

History
The Major Maps Project was launched in 2018 as a project of the Division of Undergraduate Education. With input from campus stakeholders, including the Student Advisory Council on Undergraduate Education, Berkeley Online Advising group, Council of Undergraduate Deans, and the Council of College Deans, the project team developed and tested prototypes before beginning map production in spring 2019.
The project team has since produced four-year maps for 93 majors, and is currently in production of the next generation (“2.0” version) of major maps featuring a redesigned layout, expanded sections, and transfer student content. 37 majors have been updated to the 2.0 version since summer 2024.

Information for Departments
My department would like to build a major map.
Our Major Maps Project Team can help build maps for your department’s undergraduate majors. We produce maps year-round (fall, spring, and summer), usually as part of a group of other majors in the same college/division.
To get started, email us at major-maps@berkeley.edu to schedule a Zoom meeting where we will introduce the project, review the production process and timeline, and answer any questions you may have.
I need to update my department’s major map.
Our Major Maps Project Team can help revise your existing major map at your request. Email us at major-maps@berkeley.edu for instructions on how to update your map. We also periodically invite departments to update their maps, typically during the summer.
If your department currently has a major map from our original (“1.0”) design, we encourage you to upgrade your map to the next-generation (“2.0”) version. Email us for more information.
My department would like to print copies of our major map.
You can now professionally print your major map through UCSF Documents & Media and pick up at the Moffitt Copy Center (temporarily in 105 Doe Library). See our instructions to submit a print request (printing costs apply).
If you would like to use your own print shop instead of UCSF, follow the instructions above but send the file and print details to your printer of choice instead. For best results, we recommend professionally printing your maps in lieu of an office printer or copier.
