Take Spring 2023 Student Pulse Survey #1

January 25, 2023

Dear Berkeley undergraduate student,

We invite you to take the first Student Pulse Survey of the spring term. These confidential, one-minute pulse surveys capture your feedback so we can better support you. As a token of our appreciation, if you complete the survey, you will have a chance to win a $100 gift card of your choice.

Spring 2023 Pulse Survey #1 is now open
This Pulse Survey asks for your thoughts on Summer 2023 plans, the impact of the UAW strike, and your well-being. A link to the Pulse Survey is below and appears as a task in CalCentral. The survey is confidential and results will be displayed only in the aggregate. The survey closes on Friday, February 10.

Results from Fall 2022 Pulse Survey #2
The results from the Fall 2022 Student Pulse Survey #2 are available on the Pulse Survey website, and below are some findings:

  • Students appreciate flexible learning options. More than half of undergraduate respondents said the following were extremely helpful to their learning: extended deadlines on assignments (61%), recorded lectures (58%), having a lot of low-stakes assignments rather than a few high-stakes exams (53%), instructor availability (50%), and peer or instructor review of assignments before grading (51%).
    • The Student Learning Center is a resource for peer learning, serving more than 10,000 undergraduate students each year.
  • The majority of students who requested accommodations felt they had their needs met. 84% of undergraduate and graduate students who had requested an accommodation in the Fall 2022 semester (such as an extended deadline or more time on an exam) reported being satisfied or extremely satisfied with how their request was handled.
    • The Disabled Students’ Program (DSP) serves more than 5,000 students at UC Berkeley, including those with psychological disabilities (i.e. anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder). DSP provides resources to assist students with requesting accommodations.
  • Students are helping each other find community at Berkeley. Roughly three-quarters of undergraduate and graduate students said their peers contributed to their sense of belonging at UC Berkeley. For undergraduates, this also included student organizations (48%), instructors (32%), and residential communities (32%). For graduate students, instructors (40%), academic departments (40%), and advisors (32%) were key to their belonging.
    • Berkeley has more than 1,200 Registered Student Organizations (RSO’s), 60 fraternities and sororities, and student government (ASUC/GA) groups. The LEAD Center is Berkeley’s hub for student involvement, leadership development, and co-curricular advising.
