Seeking Curriculum & Pedagogy Director Nominations for Berkeley Changemaker

July 11, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the executive vice chancellor and provost (EVCP) and myself, I write to invite you to submit nominations (including self nominations) for the position of curriculum & pedagogy director for the Berkeley Changemaker academic program.

About Berkeley Changemaker
Berkeley Changemaker® is a campus-wide certificate program that includes over 30 courses, all based on three through-lines -- critical thinking, communication, and collaboration -- currently enrolling some 20% of undergraduates, with aspirations for continued growth. Berkeley Changemaker represents a wider and more inclusive lens into entrepreneurial thinking for students. In fact, Berkeley Changemakers are more diverse than the general undergraduate population on every metric. The curriculum activates undergraduates’ passions and develops a sharper sense of who they want to be and how to make that happen.

The Curriculum & Pedagogy Director Position
The curriculum & pedagogy director of Berkeley Changemaker is responsible for academic leadership, internal and external relations, partnership building, and fundraising. The latter is of particular import as Berkeley Changemaker is currently funded by a combination of philanthropy and revenue generation. The faculty director collaborates closely with a team of two staff members and will report to the vice provost for undergraduate education (VPUE). The faculty director will also work in close partnership with the Berkeley Changemaker executive director as well as other units within the Division of Undergraduate Education, such as Berkeley Discovery and the American Cultures Center, and the greater campus ecosystem, such as the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarships and the Public Service Center.

We invite nominations of tenured Berkeley faculty who have a demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching and learning, as well as to improving the undergraduate student experience. The ideal candidate should have a well-established research and teaching reputation, leadership experience, administrative abilities, as well as the capacity and willingness to raise funds from philanthropic sources (several of which are already established), revenue-generating opportunities, and competitive grant programs. This appointment, contingent on relevant approvals from the Academic Personnel Office and the vice provost for the faculty, will be for an initial two-year term with the possibility of renewal. It provides an annual stipend and the anticipated start date is September 1, 2024.

I invite you to learn more about the responsibilities of the role, the nomination process, along with the desired applicant qualifications, on the nomination formThe deadline to submit nominations is Friday, August 2, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

Fiat Lux,

Oliver O’Reilly
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
