Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to announce that the film Oppenheimer is the 2024 selection for On the Same Page, our campus-wide common-read program for new students. We will host a conversation and Q&A about the film with historians, physicists, and a filmmaker on Thursday, September 5, 2024, 4:00-5:00 p.m., at Zellerbach Playhouse; reception to follow. We hope you will join us.
You can watch Oppenheimer on the big screen for free at BAMPFA (Wednesday, September 4, and Sunday, September 8), and stream it for free through the UC Berkeley Library (link on our website). We invite you to watch the film and discuss it with new and continuing students in a variety of contexts this fall—in one of your courses, in advising meetings, at related events and programming around the film, and elsewhere around campus. You can find resources on our website, including a Library Research Guide for Oppenheimer.
We are planning an exciting slate of programming related to the film throughout the fall semester, in partnership with the Center for Japanese Studies, the Center for Science, Technology, Medicine & Society, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Check out our events calendar.
If you are inspired to teach a freshman seminar related to Oppenheimer, feature the film or its themes in one of your courses, organize a discussion group with your unit or department, or support On the Same Page in any way, please write to me at aileen.liu@berkeley.edu.
Sincerely,
