Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am delighted to announce that the documentary film Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution is the 2023 selection for On the Same Page, our campus-wide common-read program for new students. We will host a screening and post-film conversation with directors Nicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht on campus on Thursday, September 14, 2023, 4-7 PM in Zellerbach Hall and we hope you will join us. Visit the event page for details and to register.
You can watch Crip Camp, including a version with audio description and open captions, for free on our website. We invite you to watch the film and discuss it with new and continuing students in a variety of contexts this fall—in one of your courses, in advising meetings, at related events and programming around the film, and elsewhere around campus. You can find teaching resources on our website, including a Library Research Guide for Disability Studies, and a Crip Camp Discussion Guide.
If you are inspired to teach a freshman seminar related to Crip Camp, feature the film or its themes in one of your courses, organize a discussion group with your unit or department, or support On the Same Page in any way, please write to me at aileen.liu@berkeley.edu.
Sincerely,
Aileen Liu, PhD
