Dear campus community,
After this semester’s final exams, Moffitt Library will temporarily close for a renovation of its lower three floors. The closure will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, and the library is expected to reopen at the beginning of fall semester 2026.
For more details, please see the UC Berkeley Library’s FAQ, which includes a list of alternative study spaces that are welcoming and convenient. The UC Berkeley campus is home to an incredible array of libraries, from dynamic destinations at the heart of campus to tucked-away gems. We encourage students accustomed to studying at Moffitt to venture out and explore locations they may have never visited. The Berkeley Life Blog also provides lists of additional study spots.
We understand that the temporary closure will cause a disruption for the many students who rely upon Moffitt as a cherished place where they can study and socialize. While it will cause an inconvenience in the short term, the renovation will add hundreds of new spaces, allowing the library to comfortably accommodate many students for years to come.
Thank you for your understanding and your patience. We look forward to welcoming more Bears than ever into the library when it reopens!
Sincerely,
Suzanne Wones
