Midterm Grade Reporting - Fall 2023

September 20, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

The CalCentral grade roster is now open for instructors to submit midterm grades for undergraduate students who are struggling academically (i.e., receiving a D+ through F or NP in a course).

Non-passing midterm grades can be an early sign of deeper problems and an indicator that students need help. We ask that you please submit your midterm grades in CalCentral so college advisors can reach out to those students while there is still time to address concerns. To submit midterm grades:

  1. Login to CalCentral
  2. Go to My Academics > Teaching

The grade roster is open through Tuesday, October 17 at 11:59 p.m. (dates and deadlines for submitting midterm grades are posted on the Office of the Registrar website). The course instructor of record may submit midterm grades anytime the roster is open and may update grades as often as they wish (for example, when a student has raised a deficient grade since the midterm). Midterm grades submitted to the grade roster are posted for all classes at the same time after the roster closes.

We believe that this “early warning” system improves students’ academic and personal well-being, and we thank you for your support and cooperation. We encourage you to also conduct mid-semester check-ins and evaluations with your class. They are an ideal way to demonstrate your concern for students and to consider adjustments to your pedagogy. Please go to the Center for Teaching & Learning website for guidance.

Best wishes,

Oliver M. O’Reilly (he/him)
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
