Interim Chief Academic Technology Officer Announcement

December 3, 2024

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Anne Marie Richard as interim Chief Academic Technology Officer (CATO) for Research, Teaching, & Learning (RTL) within the Division of Undergraduate Education. Anne Marie previously served as Associate CIO and Director of Student Affairs IT and brings almost two decades of experience at UC Berkeley. She is thrilled to be joining RTL as Interim CATO. I know that she deeply respects the work of this organization and is excited to guide it forward over the next several months.

Anne Marie holds a Ph.D. in Education from UC Berkeley, with expertise in critical pedagogy, popular education, and participatory action research. For the past 17 years, she has served in leadership roles, creating programs and leading organizations in support of student success and belonging. Most recently, she has provided strategic technical direction for the Student Affairs Division, leading many initiatives to enhance the student technology experience across campus, including expanding tech support services, implementing multilingual chatbots, and establishing the Student Technology Equity Program.

Throughout her career, she has developed many cross-departmental and cross-divisional collaborations, including across Student Affairs, Undergraduate Education, and Berkeley IT, and I know she looks forward to continuing to do so in this new role.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Anne Marie as she begins her role this week. We look forward to the positive impact and contributions she will make in our Division.

With gratitude,

Oliver O’Reilly
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
