Applications Open: 2025 Equity-Oriented Advising & Coaching Program Cohort

October 10, 2024

Dear UC Berkeley staff,

We are pleased to announce that applications for the Spring 2025 Equity-Oriented Advising & Coaching Program cohort are now open. At UC Berkeley, our approach to supporting students is equity-oriented and strength-based. The Equity-Oriented Advising & Coaching Program (EOAC) is a highly-participatory professional development program designed to support advising and student services staff in their practice as equity-oriented advisors and coaches. The EOAC program offers a balance of theory and practice, incorporating self-reflection, continuous learning, and approaches to mitigating bias in all aspects of our work. EOAC is grounded in an adaptive equity-oriented pedagogical framework that has been shown to improve student engagement, success, and belonging.

This cohort-based professional development opportunity is offered through the Advising Strategy + Training Program within the Division of Undergraduate Education at no cost to participants’ home departments. Advising and student services staff in all of our campus divisions and who work with all of our student populations are eligible and encouraged to apply. Applicants must have supervisor approval to participate. Every participant who fulfills all program requirements, including submitting their Equity-Oriented Capstone Project, will receive a Certificate of Completion signed by campus leadership. More information about the program, including important dates, can be found on the 2025 EOAC Program webpage.

Please consider applying to participate in this opportunity to expand your equity-oriented toolkit. The application deadline is Friday, November 8, 2024. Applicants will be notified about next steps in early December 2024. All questions should be directed to Liza Schlosser-Olroyd, EOAC Program Coordinator: eschlosser@berkeley.edu.

Thank you for your continuous commitment to supporting our students and one another.

Sincerely,

Oliver M. O’Reilly (he/him), Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

Lisa García Bedolla, (she/her/ella), Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate Division

Fabrizio Mejia (he/him), Acting Vice Chancellor, Equity and Inclusion

Stephen C. Sutton (he/him), Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
