2025 Distinguished Teaching Award - Call for Initial Nominations

May 21, 2024

Dear campus community,

The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching is currently accepting initial nominations for the 2025 Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching award on the Berkeley campus. We strongly encourage you to initiate a nomination of someone for this prestigious award.

As with last year, initial nominations may be submitted by anyone in a department—including students, staff, or faculty—via the 2025 DTA Initial Nomination Form.

These initial nominations will then be provided to the relevant department chairs, who will confirm that nominees meet the eligibility criteria and ultimately decide whom the department will put forward for consideration. Departments may choose among those suggested, may put forward another nominee, or may choose not to nominate anyone. To that end, department chairs do not need to submit an initial nomination via this form.

Initial nomination forms must be submitted by EOD Wednesday, September 18, 2024. We will communicate initial nominations to departments by September 25, 2024, and will seek final nominations from departments by October 30, 2024.

Award recipients will be announced in early March 2025 and recognized at a ceremony in April 2025. A full description of the award process is available on the DTA website.

If you have questions, please contact Professor Lisa Pruitt, Chair of the Committee on Teaching (lpruitt@berkeley.edu), or the Center for Teaching and Learning (teaching@berkeley.edu).

Sincerely,

Oliver M. O’Reilly
Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
