2024 Distinguished Teaching Award - Call for Nominations

May 22, 2023

The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching award on the Berkeley campus. We write to strongly encourage you to nominate someone for this prestigious award.

Since 1959, the Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) has recognized UC Berkeley faculty for teaching that rises above and beyond the individual class to a sustained performance of excellence. This kind of teaching incites intellectual curiosity in students, inspires departmental colleagues, makes students aware of significant relationships between the academy and the world at large, and fosters inclusive classrooms and supportive environments for all students.

This year the nomination may be initiated by anyone in a department—including students, staff, or faculty—by submitting a 300-word nomination and identifying information in the 2024 UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award Stage 1 Nomination Form.

Nomination forms may be submitted on an ongoing basis between now and the Stage 1 deadline of Friday, September 15, 2023. Departments of nominees will be asked to provide minimal additional information by September 29. Award recipients will be announced in early March 2024 and recognized at a ceremony in April 2024. A full description of the award process is available on the DTA website.

If you have questions, please contact Andrea Roth (aroth@law.berkeley.edu), Chair of the Committee on Teaching, or the Center for Teaching and Learning (teaching@berkeley.edu).

Sincerely,
