2022 Distinguished Teaching Award - Call for Nominations

June 9, 2021

The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching is pleased to announce an initial call for nominations for the 2022 Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching award on the Berkeley campus.

Since 1959, the Distinguished Teaching Award has recognized UC Berkeley faculty for teaching that rises above and beyond the individual class to a sustained performance of excellence. This kind of teaching incites intellectual curiosity in students, inspires departmental colleagues, makes students aware of significant relationships between the academy and the world at large, and fosters inclusive classrooms and supportive environments for all students.

We strongly encourage you to nominate someone from your department for this prestigious award. While the nomination needs to be approved and submitted by the department chair, vice-chair for instruction, or other appropriate official, the nomination itself may be initiated by anyone in a department, including students.

Guidelines and procedures for nominations can be found on the program webpage. Nomination materials may be submitted on an ongoing basis between now and the Stage One deadline on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

If you have questions about the award guidelines, procedures or application, please contact Andrea Roth (aroth@law.berkeley.edu), incoming Chair of the Committee on Teaching (2021-22), or Sarah Pickett (teaching@berkeley.edu), Center for Teaching and Learning staff representative to the Committee on Teaching.

Sincerely,

Catherine P. Koshland
Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education
