Speaker Bio

Alva Noë is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Department of Philosophy here at Berkeley, where he also is a member of the Center for New Media, and the Institute for Cognitive and Brain Sciences, and the Program in Critical Theory. Professor Noë, whose work has been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Judd Hume Prize in Advanced Visual Studies, and the Prado/Tatiana Neuroscience Residency at the Prado Museum , works on fundamental questions about consciousness, perception, and art. He is the author of numerous books including  Action in Perception (2004); Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness (2009); Strange Tools: Art and Human Nature (2015) and The Entanglement: How Art and Philosophy Make Us What We Are (2023).
