  • Received both her M.E. in Civil & Environmental Engineering in 1992 and her Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology from UC Berkeley in 1995 before joining the faculty at UC Santa Barbara

Contributions and Distinctions

Holden is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UC Santa Barbara, where she has taught and conducted research since 1997. Her work focuses on microbial processes in the environment, water quality, and the origins and solutions to environmental pollution. She also served as Director of the UCSB Natural Reserve System, leading interdisciplinary research on ecosystems, contaminants, and microbial dynamics in coastal and terrestrial environments.
