Simplifying Student Access to Alumni Mentoring and Undergraduate Opportunities

March 11, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

Our Berkeley community can now access both the My Berkeley Alumni Portal and the Discovery Opportunities Platform through a single sign‑on. This integration streamlines how students connect with alumni mentors and navigate Berkeley’s undergraduate resources for immersive learning, unifying our community in a way that ensures every student’s journey doesn’t just end at graduation, but evolves into a lifelong Cal alumni experience.

What These Tools Offer

  • My Berkeley Alumni Portal creates a space for our students, alumni, faculty, and staff to support one another through career guidance, mentorship, and networking.
  • The Discovery Opportunities Platform—formerly the Discovery Database—is a centralized hub used by more than 20,000 undergraduates to find research positions, public service, scholarships, and other learning opportunities. While the interface and access point have changed, its core function remains the same.

What’s Changing for Faculty and Staff

There are no functional changes to My Berkeley: University Development and Alumni Relations’ mentorship, networking, and directory remains unchanged for existing My Berkeley users.

Changes for the Discovery Platform include:

  • New access point: You will now enter your undergraduate opportunities in the Discovery Platform by way of the My Berkeley Alumni Portal. Because of this, you will be prompted to complete a brief My Berkeley profile. Most fields are optional.
  • Updated interface: Discovery now features a student‑informed design to make opportunities easier to browse and search.
  • Integration with Handshake: A subset of undergraduate‑relevant Handshake listings within a 20‑mile radius of UC Berkeley is automatically shared overnight in the Discovery Platform through our collaboration with Berkeley Career Engagement, which continues to provide comprehensive career development support.

Why This Matters for Students

  • single, integrated entry point for alumni mentoring and undergraduate opportunities
  • A more intuitive search experience shaped by student feedback
  • Easier pathways to connect with alumni for guidance and career exploration
  • Continued access to a platform that has already supported 20,000+ students
  • The Berkeley Discovery team encourages you to continue listing your undergraduate opportunities in the Discovery Opportunities Platform by following this guide or emailing info.discovery@berkeley.edu. Doing so helps students find your offerings quickly and ensures broad visibility across campus.

Thank you for your partnership and for the work you do to help our students become career‑ready. If you’d like a demonstration of the new experience, please reach out to info.discovery@berkeley.edu.
