Please refer to the Current Student Enrollment Calendar for all enrollment deadlines, including those that generate enrollment fees. Add/Drop fees are listed on the Office of the Registrar website.
- Instructor Add/Drop Deadline: Friday, September 11, 2026
- Student Add/Drop Deadline (with a fee): Wednesday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m. This deadline applies to all courses not on the Early Drop Deadline list and comes at the end of the third week of instruction for the semester.
- Staff can add students on the waitlist: Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18.
Beginning in the fall 2027 semester, the add/drop deadline will move forward by one week, falling on the third week of classes — typically the tenth day of instruction — instead of the fourth week. The revised deadlines are:
- Fall 2027 Semester: Wednesday, September 8, 2027
- Spring 2028 Semester: Tuesday, February 1, 2028
Please note that there will be no change to the Early Drop Deadline at this time.
Instructors can work with their enrollment managers to enforce and process drops during the first three weeks of instruction. The Academic Senate permits the following criteria for instructor drops:
-
Insufficient engagement: In compliance with campus policies on accommodation, instructors should clearly define in the course syllabus the terms by which a student may be dropped due to insufficient engagement. These terms must be limited to clearly defined assignments and/or attendance expectations.
-
Published prerequisites: Instructors may elect to drop students for not having completed course prerequisites, provided the prerequisites are published as such under the course’s “Rules and Requirements” of the current Course Catalog in the Berkeley Academic Guide.
Instructors are encouraged to check whether a student's "insufficient engagement" is a consequence of an illness or other extenuating circumstance. If so, consider accommodating the student so they may remain enrolled (should the student wish) and return to full engagement as soon as possible. In addition, instructors who wish to restrict enrollments into their classes after the Instructor Drop Deadline should work with their enrollment managers to require instructor consent for students to enroll in their classes after this date.
